Your child has been busy learning the classroom and school expectations. Our first day was devoted to learning what it looks like and sounds like in the hall, classroom, and cafeteria. Today we discussed and agreed on our classroom rules. We will review those rules tomorrow and begin our discipline program. Be sure to check your child’s planner for our discipline procedures and for how your child’s day went. We are also working on name recognition and writing.
We have been reading various versions of The Gingerbread Man and comparing them. Thursday we will tour the school to find him. I’m sure we will be successful because my students (your children) are so sharp.

Christmas Party
Our Christmas party is scheduled for Friday,December 16th. It will begin at 9:00 and end at 10:00. We are asking each student to bring a small trinket gift for each of their classmates. You can purchase toys, candy, etc. in bulk to put in each child’s sack. Children may begin bringing gifts as early as Monday of this week. We are eagerly looking forward to our first party of the year. Hope to see you then.
End of Six Weeks
It’s hard to believe that the six weeks is just about over. We have worked hard to learn our sight words for the six weeks and the letters Aa through Hh. Have your child look for the sight words in books that you read at home. It has been such a joy watching and listening to them as they discover these words in books within the classroom.
We will begin our study of bats next week. Ask your child what they discovered in their study of this creature. We will create a chart of what we know and what we want to know about bats. Using this study, we will do our first big writing activity on what we learned at the end of the study. Look for these to be posted in our hall.
Continue to work on the sight word cards I sent home. This will help your child get ahead of the game and feel very sucessful in their learning experience.
Great Day
We had a really great day today. We are learning how to walk in a line down the hall. My class is doing a really super job of walking without touching others and the wall.
We started our author study of Norman Bridwell. You know he’s the guy who writes all the Clifford stories. Today we read about Clifford as a small puppy and how he suddenly grew so big.
We are working on the words I and can in Language Arts. Next week we will add am and the to our list. If you would like to work on these, it would be greatly appreciated. You can do simple things like pointing out these words as you read bedtime stories to your child, or anywhere you happen to come across these words.
Parent Orientation
We are having a parent orientation September 6,2011 from 5:30 to 6:30. I hope all parents will attend as this will be a very informative meeting.
Community Wide Meeting
Just wanted to let everyone know that there will be a community wide budget information meeting on Sunday, April 10, at 3:00 p.m. in the elementary cafeteria.
Thanks,
Mrs. Babb
Merry Christmas
We are so excited about Christmas in our classromm. The students have been busy painting, decorating and writing about Christmas. I had one really sweet story by Dax. He wrote about how Christmas is not so much about getting and giving presents but about celebrating Jesus’ birthday. There were many other good stories written about Santa and presents.
Today we pretended to be on the Polar Express. We were all feeling very comfortable in our pj’s.
We will continue to celebrate this season with a big Christmas party on Friday at 9:00. You are welcome to come and celebrate with us.
Tomorrow, as well as Friday,we get out at 11:00. I know that the kids are ready for a break. I hope all of you have a safe and Merry Christmas. I look forward to the New Year. I want all my students to come back in January ready to work and complete our Kindergarten year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
Mrs. Babb
Updates from Our Class
Wow! I can’t believe that we have completed our first six weeks. I am so proud of my students. They have really worked hard this six weeks. They are becoming really good readers and writers. You can help your child continue to grow as a reader and writer by helping them with their sight words at home and have them read to you. Your child should be bringing a book home each day. We are working with patterns in Math, and we are starting our study over bats.
Upcoming Events:
October 11 – holiday for students
October 14 – picture day
We have worked on the following sight words:
I, am is, can, a, like, the, me, see
Practice these words each night with your child and you will see their reading improve.
Busy First Week
